March, 2015 Pet Of The Month
5 years ago, our family moved into our current home.We knew we wanted to get a kitten once we successfully sold our old house and had settled into the new one. Once that took place, we called a shelter near our home town (Menominee Animal Shelter, Menominee, MI) and filled out an application for a kitten. After a brief waiting period, we were called and notified a gray male was available. We then took a ride, met, and fell in love with our Tarzan. Tarzan is a high-spirited, loving cat. He is friendly to all, young and old, and warms up quickly (unless he’s at the vet!). He brings each member of our family joy everyday, through the cute things he does and the love he clearly returns to us. Also, having a pet taught our children responsibility: scooping litter box, offering food and water, making sure doors are shut to prevent an escape, etc. Tarzan has a unique personality. He often acts much like a dog: he stands watch as people enter our yard and home, he plays catch (with people, or with himself by tossing his toys in the air himself and playing), he begs for food just like a dog would, he goes outside on a leash, and we’ve seen him chase his tail like a dog. Also, he’s very predictable: he starts crying about an hour before he is due to eat, we know where to find him sleeping throughout various times of day (he has certain spots for certain times of day), he meets individual family members with their own special greeting every day. He is the perfect fit for our family. Tarzan was named by the animal shelter employees: he would swing and jump all around his kennel, so they named him “Tarzan”. He had a sister with him at the shelter, and they named her “Jane”. Tarzan is the cat that everyone digs. He’s the “I don’t even like cats, but I like this one” cat J Tarzan became sick some time after we had him, and the wonderful staff at Bay East Animal Hospital helped us take care of him. They quickly got us appointments when we needed them, identified what was causing his pain and illness, and helped to treat him and keep him well. Our family is forever grateful for their kindness and care. Although he doesn’t show it when he visits, Tarzan is, too!
